Institutional Profile   Faculty Profile

My laboratory applies spatially resolved transcriptomic and genomic approaches to develop new strategies for diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary cancers. We integrate these molecular data with classical histopathology and leverage computational pathology to identify novel bio-pathological features with potential theragnostic value.

Dr. Zhen Zhao, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified anatomic pathologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB). She is committed to advancing the diagnosis and care of GI and HPB diseases through integrative research. Her work centers on two complementary aims: (1) applying spatially resolved transcriptomic and genomic technologies to connect cellular and molecular landscapes with classical histopathology, and (2) leveraging computational pathology to identify novel bio-pathological features with potential theragnostic relevance. Dr. Zhao serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and holds a joint appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and member of the Cancer Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
