Given the emphasis on priority in scientific publishing, it can be tricky to figure out what to do in this type of situation. Does the winner take all? Should the two investigators or groups try to publish simultaneously? The answers to these questions depend on the individuals involved and the scientific culture in which they work. Documents from the Norton Zinder collection highlight such a “scoop” in the mid-1950s and suggest both continuities and changes in the culture of science since then. Read more about it here.
