The Gardiner Young Scholars Program

The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Library & Archives offers an internship opportunity for high school students called the Gardiner Young Scholars Program, which is generously supported by The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.

The Gardiner Young Scholars (GYS) Program requires the completion of 100 hours of service to the Cold Spring Harbor Archives. Upon the completion of the hours of services, the Gardiner Young Scholar must submit a link to a short video presentation documenting their experience. This video must be suitable for posting on the CSHL and the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation websites. This internship is accompanied by a stipend of $1,500 to be paid to the scholar in full, upon completion of the hours and video requirement. Candidates must be between the ages of 15 to 22.

CSHL Archives maintains extensive archival collections related to the history molecular biology, genetics and biotechnology worldwide, as well as the history of Long Island. The Gardiner Young Scholar would assist in archives inventorying and database entry. The GYS would learn about archives and be taught how to use ArchivesSpace, as well as how to create metadata and update individual records.

We invite applications from high school students who are interested in the history of science and/or life sciences and desire hands on experience in a scientific library and archives.

To apply, please email a statement of interest and resume to Tricia Loria at Loria@cshl.edu.

The Gardiner Young Scholars candidate is selected at the discretion of CSHL Library and Archives, which will oversee their hours and activities. The internship will be offered during the summer break.
