Swim Across America and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Make Waves for Cancer Research

Cold Spring Harbor Lab

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) participated in the annual Nassau-Suffolk County benefit swim hosted by Swim Across America (SAA) on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Pryibil Beach, Glen Cove.

This year, 14 swimmers and 5 volunteers from CSHL joined Team Carolyn once again. Led by CSHL Association Director Steve Chestler and his children, Gregory and Caitlin, the team honors the memory of their beloved wife and mother, Carolyn Jaenisch, who passed away from non-small cell lung cancer in 2021. Inspired by Carolyn’s passion for swimming, Team Carolyn has raised $205,737 this year. Please consider supporting Team Carolyn in their efforts to reach their goal of $225,000. Donations can be made through this link until October 31st.

Drs. Corina Amor Vegas and Semir Beyaz, the 2024 recipients of SAA funding, shared insights about their research and expressed gratitude to all the swimmers and volunteers who made the day possible.

The Nassau/Suffolk branch of Swim Across America has been supporting cancer research at CSHL since 2008, donating $1.2M to date. This year, the chapter collectively raised $833,030 through local pool swims and the open water swim event. CSHL is immensely grateful for the ongoing support from SAA, which enables its scientists to conduct cutting-edge cancer research.
