On June 10th, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) welcomed donors of the Elisabeth R. Woods Foundation to a special gathering in support of lung cancer research. Elisabeth Woods’ granddaughter, Mary Leonard, welcomed the distinguished guests, and in her opening remarks, told the story of her grandmother’s battle with non-small cell lung cancer and the Elisabeth R. Woods Foundation’s mission to research early detection and prevention of lung cancer and other areas of cancer.
CSHL President & CEO Bruce Stillman spoke about current cancer research at the Lab and groundbreaking discoveries in many other areas, including lung cancer. Elisabeth Woods Leonard, Elisabeth’s daughter and the founder of the Foundation, presented Dr. Stillman with a check in the amount of $30,000. This was the first time this annual Foundation event was held at CSHL. Elisa Leonard, Foundation member and Elisabeth Woods Leonard’s eldest daughter, was unable to attend the event.
