Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has long stood at the forefront of postgraduate science education. Now, CSHL’s School of Biological Sciences (SBS) has been accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

Since its founding in 1999, the SBS’ Ph.D. program has enrolled over 200 students and conferred over 130 doctoral degrees. The School was previously accredited by the New York State Board of Regents. But the State Board voted in 2021 to stop accrediting all colleges and universities in May 2023.

“The SBS has an outstanding record of accomplishments and I would like to thank NECHE for recognizing these achievements in their accreditation report,” CSHL President and CEO Bruce Stillman says. “We were very pleased with the entire process of re-accreditation and it was a pleasure to work with NECHE.”

The new accreditation took effect January 24, 2023.
