The 2023 CSHL Volleyball League Finals

On September 19, the annual Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Volleyball League closed out its 32nd season. P.E. Revival, led by CSHL Assistant Professor Hannah Meyer and Scientific Administrator Caryn Koza, capped off their first-place regular season finish with a second Tiernan Cup in three years. In a rematch of the 2022 final, the team overcame an early deficit against rival Breast Friends en route to a 2-1 victory.

“I couldn’t be happier. We had such a fun season,” says P.E. Revival’s Leah Boyd, a research tech in the Borniger lab. “Breast Friends is a great team. They’re always good competition. That’s why it’s so much fun to play them.”

“We have a good, healthy rivalry that honestly just makes both of us better teams,” adds Breast Friends’ Samantha Henry, a graduate student studying breast cancer with the dos Santos lab.

While the rivalry got intense at times, both teams left it all on the court. And in a testament to the value of CSHL’s multidisciplinary approach, this year’s winning squad came from all around the Laboratory—from the Janowitz lab, the Lukey lab, the Advancement Department, and elsewhere across campus.
