Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Fellow Jason Sheltzer has been named a recipient of the 2019 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). The award honors researchers early in their independent careers who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.
“Congratulations to Jason Sheltzer on being selected as a prestigious Presidential Early Career Award recipient for his ground-breaking research evaluating genetic changes that drive cancer progression, including the gain or loss of whole chromosomes,” said CSHL Director of Research David Spector.
Sheltzer focuses on cancer research, exploring avenues to improve cancer prognoses, studying aneuploidy (which is presence of an abnormal number of chromosomes in a cell) in cancer, and identifying cancer drug targets using the gene-editing tool CRISPR. He is a part of the CSHL Fellows program, which provides outstanding young scientists with a lab and mentorship to develop their skills before taking on a faculty position.
