Virtually all of modern medicine is rooted in fundamental biology. In any field, bringing breakthroughs from lab bench to bedside takes time and money—lots of both. One way to get things started on the right track quickly is through what’s called a window-of-opportunity trial. “It’s essentially where we align our research investigation to the standard of care,” explains Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Associate Professor Tobias Janowitz.
A recent discovery by Professor Lloyd Trotman is primed for exactly this approach. In January, during the 2026 Hutchinson DuBosque Jr. Memorial Lecture, Trotman and Janowitz spoke with the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Association about this momentous opportunity and its potential implications for prostate cancer patients.
