Former Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Professor Douglas Fearon has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Academy. He is recognized for championing research that helped link innate and adaptive immunity. Fundamental biology studies by Fearon and his colleagues significantly enhanced science’s understanding of the human immune system, thereby laying the groundwork for immunotherapy, now a frontline treatment against many forms of cancer.

“Throughout my long career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the best and brightest minds in science and medicine,” says Fearon. “Now, I have the great honor of being elected as a Fellow of the AACR Academy. I’d like to thank the members of the Academy for their groundbreaking cancer research, as well as all of their educational efforts. It is truly humbling to be counted among their distinguished ranks.”

Fellows of the AACR Academy constitute a global brain trust of leading experts in cancer science and medicine, working to advance the AACR’s mission to prevent and cure all cancers. Fearon is one of 24 professionals elected to the AACR Fellows Class of 2026. He joins a group that includes several past and living legends of CSHL, such as current Professors David Tuveson and Michael Wigler (Class of 2020), President Bruce Stillman (2019), and the late Nobel laureate James Watson (2013).
