The final beam is now in place, with some familiar names attached.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) recently celebrated a major milestone in its Foundations for the Future expansion project—the topping-off of a new Artificial Intelligence and Quantitative Biology (AIQB) building. During a ceremony held July 10, union-led construction crews lowered into place the AIQB building’s topmost beam, which had been signed by numerous members of the CSHL community, from trustees and faculty members to administrative staff.
The science set to take place in this building will expand the Laboratory’s world-leading research in cancer, neuroscience, and other crucial areas, said CSHL President Bruce Stillman. That research has already resulted in new and powerful clinical therapeutics and will drive further advances in science and medicine.
The topping-off ceremony brought together local construction crews, the CSHL Facilities team, researchers, and donors to honor all the work that went into the new AIQB building—and the work that will soon be conducted inside of it. At a time when science faces significant challenges and pressures, CSHL acknowledges how important it is to pause and celebrate milestones like this.
