DEFEATING CANCER: Working with communities to conduct better cancer research

Kevin Cassel, Dr.PH
Assistant Professor Population Sciences in the Pacific Program
University of Hawaii Cancer Center

Over the past decade, cancer incidence and mortality rates have declined in the US. However, certain populations - often defined by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or location - are still at increased risk of dying from specific cancers.

Join us to hear from Dr. Cassel on how researchers and clinicians can work with those communities that experience the greatest differences in cancer outcomes. He will discuss strategies to engage community members and effectively intervene in these diseases. Dr. Cassel will offer ways to improve participation in clinical trials, adapt methods to treat and prevent cancer in medically underserved communities, and get young people involved to limit health disparities in the future.
