Professor Nicholas Tonks has been named a 2019 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
Tonks is being honored in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences for his contributions to our understanding of signal transduction, through the discovery of protein tyrosine phosphatases and the characterization of their structure, regulation, and function. In recent years, he has obtained promising results aimed at devising new therapeutic strategies for diseases, including breast cancer, diabetes, Rett syndrome, and Alzheimer’s.
The AAAS Fellowship program celebrates researchers and scientists who have made distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications across its 24 different fields. The new AAAS Fellows will be celebrated on February 15th during the 2020 AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
