Plate Race 2025

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) summer Courses are intense. From June to August, student schedules are jam-packed with 12 to 15 hours per day of lectures, hands-on experiments, and group projects. After that much science, it helps to blow off a little steam.

For over 40 years, the CSHL community has celebrated the end of summer Courses with a relay race along Bungtown Road. But for the three competitors—Yeast Genetics & Genomics; Chromatin, Epigenetics, and Gene Expression; and Imaging Structure & Function in the Nervous System—it’s not only a celebration. It’s a chance to show off the grit, determination, discipline, and camaraderie they’ve built up in the lab over those long summer months.

Press play to watch it all unfold and see what drives these young scientists to keep going.
