In September 2021, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and the City University of New York (CUNY) cut the ribbon on a new DNA Learning Center (DNALC) in Brooklyn, New York. CSHL Trustee Laurie J. Landeau thanked supporters and donors for their patience, persistence, and commitment throughout the development and construction of the 18,000-square-foot facility.

The DNALC has provided science education and biotechnology training to over 700,000 pre-college students in the New York area since 1998. Through hands-on experiments, field trips, and summer camps, DNALC educators immerse young scientists in molecular biology. Landeau shared her excitement and exhilaration about the grand opening and the possibilities it provides for the future.

“Unimaginably good things come to those who are patient,” she says. “Many of the members of the Brooklyn community have never been more invigorated, and now we’re going to spring forward even more. It is just the beginning.”
