The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Board of Trustees, faculty and administration mourn the passing of David H. Koch, Honorary Trustee of the Laboratory and vigorous supporter of cancer research.
David served as a Trustee from 1992-1998, contributing to the growth of the Laboratory’s infrastructure and research programs. His interest in cancer therapeutics and quantitative biology is memorialized by the David H. Koch Laboratory that opened in 2009. A major donor to CSHL, David also supported cancer research at other leading academic institutions. He was proud of the Laboratory’s achievements, appreciating its rank among the top research institutions in the world.
At CSHL, David is remembered for his deep understanding of the Lab’s biomedical research and science education mission. In addition to providing much needed financial support for programs in these areas, he was generous in providing sage advice. David was clearly passionate about advancing research and was driven by his own experience with cancer.
CSHL was pleased to honor David with its 2007 Double Helix Medal that acknowledged his commitment to philanthropy directed toward fundamental science. The Laboratory expresses its deepest sympathy to David’s family.
