Activity description:

Eyes are sensory organs that began their evolution about 540 million years ago from a simple eyespot! They are essential for the survival of countless organisms and vary greatly in size, structure and function. The complexity of sight is an evolutionary marvel. How did it all come about? Come and explore the history of the eyes we know today!

In this activity, you will:

  • learn about some of the most basic and complex life forms that can “see”;
  • discuss theories about the evolution of sight; and
  • explore the DNALC museum exhibition on the evolution of the eye.

Participants need:

  • Blank paper and a writing utensil.
