One of the pieces was a painting, From the Laboratory of Barbara McClintock, by Elizabeth Turnbull, a Texas born artist who has called Long Island home for over 10 years. Through their mutual involvement with LIAFA, Beth met Dr. van de Stouwe who helped with a very special favor from the CSHL archives: Beth was able to borrow some of the tools and implements from Nobelist Barbara McClintock’s laboratory, to paint the still life.
Beth’s painting was just named a finalist in the Still Life category at the 2014/2015 International Arts Renewal Center (ARC) Salon Competition.
Congratulations Beth! We’re so happy to see these tools of science so beautifully inspire your art.
Happy Birthday Barbara McClintock, born June 16, 1902—and still inspiring the world of science!
