Cold Spring Harbor, NY — Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) announces the election of three new members to its Board of Trustees: Rockefeller University Professor and co-chair of the NIH BRAIN Initiative Dr. Cori Bargmann; real estate investor Jeffrey E. Kelter and private equity investor Thomas A. Saunders III.
“CSHL’s board continues to elect trustees of the highest academic and professional caliber. The broad expertise of Dr. Bargmann, Mr. Kelter and Mr. Saunders will further CSHL’s pursuit of excellence as a leader in molecular biology and genetics research and education,” said CSHL Chairman Jamie Nicholls.
“I am honored to work with such a distinguished board whose members are so deeply committed to the strength of biomedical research and education at CSHL and the critical role that academic institutions like CSHL play in this nation’s economy,” said CSHL President & CEO Bruce Stillman.
Dr. Cornelia (Cori) Bargmann, a neuroscientist and a recipient of the 2013 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences, is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and the Torsten N. Wiesel Professor and co-director of the Shelby White and Leon Levy Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior at The Rockefeller University. Dr. Bargmann received her Ph.D. in cancer biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jeffrey E. Kelter is a founder and CEO of KTR Capital Partners, a private equity firm with expertise in real estate acquisitions, development, finance, operations and asset management. Prior to founding KTR, Mr. Kelter was President, CEO and Trustee of Keystone Property Trust, a vertically integrated real estate development platform, which he took public in 1997 and sold to a joint venture of Eaton Vance & Prologis in 2004. Mr. Kelter is a trustee of Trinity College, where he received his undergraduate degree.
Elected for a second time, having served on the CSHL Board from 1992-1998, Thomas A. Saunders III is President of Ivor & Co., LLC, a New York-based private investment firm. Prior to Ivor, Mr. Saunders was a founder and Managing Partner of Saunders Karp & Megrue, a private equity firm which merged with APAX Partners in 2005. From 1974-1989, he was a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and Chairman of its private equity fund. He continues to serve as a senior advisor to private equity funds including Citigroup’s Metalmark Capital and BlackRock’s fund of funds. Mr. Saunders is the former Chairman of the Board of the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business.
