Dorcas Cummings: The legacy behind the lecture

If you’ve ever been to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Symposium on Quantitative Biology, chances are you’ve heard the name Dorcas Cummings before. Each year, a renowned scientist presents their findings to members of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Association and their community during the Symposium’s Dorcas Cummings Memorial Lecture. This year’s lecture covered the intersection of aging and cancer. Last year’s was on the science behind GLP-1s. But just who was Dorcas Cummings? And what did her work as a CSHL Association Director mean to the Laboratory? Here, Robert Cummings, speaks about his mother’s legacy, which continues to inspire discovery, curiosity, and innovation almost 50 years after her untimely death.

Indeed, much of the cutting-edge science happening at CSHL today would be impossible without the support of the CSHL Association. If you’d like more information on the Association and its important work, please contact Dominique Stanley at 516-367-8471 or stanley@cshl.edu.
