Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Press Assistant Director Richard Sever has been named to Time Magazine’s 2025 TIME100 Health list. The annual list recognizes the top 100 individuals with the biggest influence on global health. Sever was honored for helping to change the way biomedical research is shared among scientists and the public. He is a co-founder of the preeminent preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv, which now operate under the governance of openRxiv.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by TIME magazine,” Sever says. “I’m grateful they recognize the important work we’re doing with openRxiv. Science thrives when knowledge is shared rapidly, and preprints have proven to be indispensable for accelerating discovery, especially in the context of public health. We all have a role to play in making research more transparent, collaborative, and impactful.”

Launched in 2025, openRxiv ensures researchers worldwide can continue to share discoveries fast, fairly, and free of charge. The community-oriented, independent nonprofit hosts over 330,000 research papers between its two servers.
