Catalog of human genetic variation speeds disease research

CSHL bioinformaticist Lincoln Stein and his colleagues are part of an international public-private consortium that has published a comprehensive catalog of human genetic variation. This landmark achievement is already accelerating the search for genes involved in common diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and asthma. Stein led Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s efforts in the International HapMap Consortium.
