Congressman Tom Suozzi hosted an event earlier this week at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) to celebrate the winners of several student science competitions in his district. Over 30 high school students were in attendance, each honored in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology; the Regeneron Science Talent Search; the Congressional App Challenge; or the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. Addressing the crowd, which included families and teachers of the awardees, Congressman Suozzi congratulated all of the students on their hard work, saying, “We’ve got the smartest congressional district in the United States.”
Two of the recognized students are currently doing lab research as part of CSHL’s Partners for the Future program. Monet Yuan, honored as a Regeneron Scholar, currently works in CSHL Fellow Jason Sheltzer’s lab. Daniel Lee, working in the lab of Assistant Professor Tatiana Engel, was also honored as a Regeneron Scholar but was unable to attend the event.
