Saturday DNA! The Transforming Principle
Saturday, November 10, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm$22
In 1928 Dr. Frederick Griffith, discovered that genetic material can be transferred from one bacteria cell to another. By doing so, traits could be transferred between the cells, giving the host cell a trait that it would not otherwise have. He called the process transformation, and at the time, didn’t know what substance had caused the change he observed. Today, we know that the genetic material being transferred was DNA and scientists have now discovered how to engineer DNA so that we can give bacteria many different types of traits!
