We are pleased to announce the Inaugural Quantitative Imaging Cytometry Symposium at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, which will be held on January 30 to February 1, 2008.  The meeting is structured to combine both the theory and practice of QIC, with morning seminars featuring a keynote lecturer and presentations by researchers employing the technology in their work.  Lectures are followed by small group laboratory sessions providing extensive hands-on practical opportunities for further skill development in applying quantitative imaging cytometry techniques in cell- and tissue-based applications.  A complete schedule and registration information can be found here.

Description

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is a shared resource, which is available to all Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cancer Center members, and other researchers. It was established in 1984 and at that time consisted of one room that housed a Coulter Epics C. Eventually, this sorter was replaced with a Coulter Elite ESP and an additional room was acquired to house a Becton-Dickinson FACSCalibur cell analyzer.

Early in 2003, a brand new facility was created and the FACSVantage DiVa cell sorter and the LSRII cell analyzer were purchased. In 2004, a high speed Dell PC was purchased to be used exclusively as a data analysis workstation. Later in 2004, the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource was awarded a shared instrumentation grant which was used to purchase the iCys Laser Scanning Cytometer in early 2005. The addition of these new state-of-the-art instruments to the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource has significantly improved services offered here at the lab.

Trained users may use the PC workstation or operate the LSRII for routine analysis such as DNA content, cell viability, cell proliferation, immunofluorescence of surface markers, etc. While both the DiVa and iCys are operated solely by the Resource Manager for complicated analysis and sorts.

Hours of operation are approximately 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday for outside users. Appointments are scheduled by contacting the Facility Manager, Pamela Moody, at (516) 367-8477.
