Description The Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BSR) provides essential services and technical support for all aspects of bioinformatics for CSHL Cancer Center members. This Shared Resource develops customized tools for a wide variety of projects, such as display and manipulation of genomic data, identification of motifs within DNA sequencings and sophisticated analysis of data from microarrays. The BSR works closely with investigators to develop databases to assist them laboratory and data management. Education of investigators in use of available Bioinformatics tools and techniques is also an important BSR function.

Services Custom Software Development The Bioinformatics Shared Resource provides custom software consulting and data mining services for a variety specialized scientific applications

Maintenance of Shared BioComputing Software The BSR maintains a web-based bioinformatics portal, the BioComputing web site (LINK), which provides access to a standard set of bioinformatics databases and tools. Local mirrors of GenBank and SwissProt are also maintained.

Training The BSR runs periodic campus-wide training courses in basic bioinformatics techniques and resources both within and outside the CSHL campus. Local software installations and individual training and assistance are also offered.
