The Cancer Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is a basic research facility devoted to the understanding of the fundamental biology of human cancer. The CSHL Cancer Center is organized into three research Programs and ten Shared Resources. The Gene Expression & Cell Proliferation Program focuses on the regulation of gene expression, cell division cycle control and chromosome structure in normal and cancer cells. The Signal Transduction focuses on signal transduction pathways and cell architecture in normal and cancer cells. The Cancer Genetics Program focuses on understanding the genetic basis of cancer, cancer progression and development of resistance to chemotherapy. Scientists at the CSHL Cancer Center are developing biochemical and genetic tools that will enhance our capacity to understand, diagnose and treat the disease. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is one of approximately sixty institutions supported by the Cancer Centers Program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and has been designated as an NCI Cancer Center since 1987.

The Laboratory also facilitates the rapid dissemination of scientific information and technology through an extensive education and teaching program. The educational activities range from workshops for students and teachers at our Dolan DNA Learning Center, to advanced courses for scientists through our extensive Meetings and Courses Program and the Banbury Conference Center, publications of the CSHL Press, and the Ph.D. program of the Watson School of Biological Sciences.

Scientific Advisors
The CSHL Cancer Center benefits from the expertise of a strong Cancer Center Advisory Board. In addition, eight members of the CSHL Board of Trustees are scientists from major research institutions or organizations who serve as advisors to the Cancer Center Director.

Cancer Center Members
The CSHL Cancer Center is organized into three research Programs - Cancer Genetics, Cell Biology and Gene Expression. Each of the research programs has a strong basic research component, but there is also an increasing emphasis on clinically important issues such as cancer genetics and cancer therapy.

Scientific Shared Resources
Ten Shared Resources provide specialized, state-of-the art equipment and techniques that are available to all Cancer Center Members.
