FROM KENNEDY OR LAGUARDIA AIRPORTS (do not fly to Newark):
By limousine:
We deal exclusively with Executive Limousine which provides us with a special rate. Just prior to the meeting, we will give you an access code authorizing you for this rate. You should make an advance reservation (so that a driver, carrying a card with your name on it, will be waiting for you by the baggage claim area) by calling Executive Limousine at:
1-800-736-4512
Or, by fax to (631) 696-4845
Or, by e-mail to execlimo1@optonline.net
If you have not made an advance reservation, you can try phoning Executive Limousine from the baggage claim area (631-696-8000) but they may not be able to provide a car at short notice. In this case, you should use Classic, a shared-ride service that drops off other passengers en route. Go to a ground transportation counter and ask to be taken to Robertson House at the Banbury Center, Lloyd Harbor.
Passengers at Kennedy can use the AirTrain - see next section.
If for any reason you find yourself at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory,
call the Banbury Center office at (516) 367-8398 or Robertson House at (516) 367-5120. (You can phone these numbers on a Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory internal phone by dialling 8398 or 5120.)
The Banbury Center staff will arrange your return ground transportation.
FROM KENNEDY AIRPORT BY AirTrain AND THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD
This is a convenient and cheap way to get from JFK to Banbury. The AirTrain links the JFK terminals and connects with the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station at Jamaica. From there, there is a frequent train service to Huntington.
Follow signs for the AirTrain as you leave the baggage claim area.
Taxis are available from the Huntington train station to the Banbury Center
(about 5 miles).
BY TRAIN:
Travel by train is convenient in the Northeast, with fast trains between New York City and Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Boston. These trains come into Pennsylvania Station, located in the same building as the Long Island Railroad that connects New York City with Huntington. Amtrak information will be found here.
The Long Island Railroad operates a regular, very complete schedule
from Pennsylvania Station in New York City to Huntington (the trip is about
1 hour; occasionally, train changes may be necessary at Jamaica Station). Timetables for travel between Huntington and New York City will be found here.
Taxis are available from the Huntington train station to the Banbury Center
(about 5 miles).
BY FERRY FROM CONNECTICUT:
The Port Jefferson Ferry runs between Port Jefferson on Long Island and Bridgeport in Connecticut; sailing time is 1 1/2 hours. Information and timetables will be found at the Port Jefferson Ferry website.
BY CAR:
From the Long Island Expressway take Route 106 North (exit 41), or from the Northern State Parkway take Route 106 North (exit 35), to Route
25A.
[DO NOT TAKE ROUTE 25 (Jehrico Turnpike) which is crossed about two miles before 25A. If you do so, please consult the Cold Spring Harbor-Lloyd Harbor map and take Routes 108 N or 110 N to reach 25A.]
Follow Rte. 106 North to Rte 25A. Turn right (east) on Rte. 25A for 5.2 miles, passing the main campus of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and going through the village of Cold Spring Harbor. Turn left on Goose Hill Rd just after passing a gas station (being rebuilt) on the left. (See Lloyd Harbor map.)
Continue along Goose Hill Road to the junction with Huntington Road. Turn right and at the next junction turn left onto West Neck Road. (This is the major road in the area; ask for directions to West Neck Road if you get lost.)
The next landmark is the Lloyd Harbor police station on the right of the road. Banbury Lane is the third left turn after the police station (about 1/2 mile). A green street sign and two white posts mark the entrance to the lane. (See Banbury Lane map.)
Continue along Banbury Lane to a fork (approximately 1/4 mile). Bear left and go through the gates of the Banbury Center. Continue straight ahead for Robertson House. (For details of the layout of the estate see the Banbury Center map.)
