Charles “Casey” Cogut elected to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Board of Trustees


Cold Spring Harbor, NY - Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) announces a new trustee, Charles "Casey" Cogut who was elected to the governing body of the private, not-for-profit biomedical research and education institution at a recent board meeting in Manhattan.

"We are delighted to welcome one of the country's top lawyers to the CSHL Board of Trustees," said CSHL Chairman Jamie Nicholls, who has led the board since 2010. Cogut joins legal icon David Boies, Chairman of Boies, Schiller and Flexner LLP, as part of the latest wave of business, professional and academic leaders who have joined the organization to contribute their expertise in support of scientific research. New trustees since 2010 also include Howard Morgan of Arca Group and Idealab, Dinakar Singh of TPG-Axon Capital, George Sard of Sard Verbinnen and Dr. Tania Baker of MIT.

Mr. Cogut is a senior corporate partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, active in its M&A, private equity and governance practices. He recently represented Microsoft Corporation in connection with its acquisition of Skype Global and Sealed Air Corporation in its acquisition of Diversey Holdings, Inc. Cogut also represented Wyeth, the global pharmaceuticals company, in connection with its sale to Pfizer Inc. in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at approximately $68 billion.

Mr. Cogut is a member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Co-Chair of the Board of Advisors of the University's Institute for Law and Economics.
