The Gift of Giving Packaged In Cold Spring Harbor, A 2004 Calendar

Proceeds Support Cancer Research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

During the hectic holiday season how do you find the time and resources to give to loved ones and to worthy charities? With Cold Spring Harbor, A 2004 Calendar, the savvy shopper can check off two items on the same busy list.

Cold Spring Harbor, A 2004 Calendar features photographs by Drew Mendelsohn, Associate Director of Meetings and Courses at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Mendelsohn used innovative means to capture new angles of familiar Cold Spring Harbor landscapes, including climbing trees and building a hot-air balloon for his camera. These photographs were previously featured in posters to promote the Laboratory’s Meetings & Courses program, which annually attracts more than 8,000 scientists to the area.

“The posters have been a real hit with the scientific community. They showcase the natural beauty of Cold Spring Harbor and provide images of relaxation and recreation,” Mendelsohn said.

The calendar retails for $13, and all proceeds support cancer research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the only National Cancer Institute-designated basic research center on Long Island. Cancer research has been a major initiative at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for more than thirty years. Nearly 200 scientists are committed to cancer-related research, including studies on breast, ovarian, cervical, colon, and pancreatic cancers, as well as malignant melanoma, leukemia and lymphoma.

Calendars can be viewed and purchased online at; by phone at 516-367-8844; or at DNA Stuff in Cold Spring Harbor, or Huntington Business Products Centre and The Book Revue, both in Huntington.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a private, non-profit basic research institution. Under the leadership of Dr. Bruce Stillman, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society (London), 308 scientists at the Laboratory conduct groundbreaking research in cancer, neurobiology, plant genetics, and bioinformatics.
