CSHL Libraries and Archives Hosts “Memories Under the Moonlight”

Past and present employees, trustees, scientists, neighbors and visitors of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory will gather together in Grace Auditorium for “Memories Under the Moonlight,” a celebration of a the Memory Board web site ( created by the CSHL Libraries and Archives, on July 28, 2005 from 7 to 9pm. This interactive website exhibits the history of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory through first-hand accounts and allows the Laboratory community – past and present – to interact, re-connect and share stories about their time at Cold Spring Harbor. Contributors can share photos, lab notes, sketches, stories and poems to the Memory Board and in so doing, document another layer CSHL’s rich history.

At “Memories Under the Moonlight,” CSHL geneticist Tim Tully will give a short talk entitled “From Genes to Drugs for Memory” and Mila Pollock, director of the CSHL Libraries and Archives, will talk about the development of the Memory Board and the history of the laboratory. The program will conclude with an open microphone session for participants to share their stories or memories aloud.

Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served; reservations required. For reservations, call 516-367-6898. For more information, visit

The Memory Board is an ongoing project supported through a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It was created with the intention of preserving and documenting the history of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in a format accessible to a vast online community and to establish a model which other institutions, foundations and universities can use to document their own history.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a private, non-profit basic research institution. Under the leadership of Dr. Bruce Stillman, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society (London), more than 330 scientists at the Laboratory conduct groundbreaking research in cancer, neurobiology, plant genetics, and bioinformatics. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is one of eight National Cancer Institute-designated basic research centers in the U.S. and the only such center in the tri-state area.
