Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory earns ninth consecutive highest rating for sound fiscal management

Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. - Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is proud to announce that for the ninth consecutive year, it has received Charity Navigator's coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal practices that have enabled it to efficiently manage and grow its finances. The 4-star rating places CSHL among the most fiscally responsible of more than 1.5 million philanthropic organizations that currently exist in America.

“Less than 1% of the charities we rate have received at least 9 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America,” said Ken Berger, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

“In addition to government support for basic research, private philanthropy is critical for breakthroughs in diseases such as cancer and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s, autism, and schizophrenia,” said CSHL Chief Operating Officer Dill Ayres. “The highest rating from Charity Navigator distinguishes CSHL as an institution that is well prepared to meet the demands of private donors in terms of accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from their investments in non-profit organizations.”

Charity Navigator is the largest charity evaluator in America and its website attracts more visitors than all other charity rating groups combined. The organization helps guide intelligent giving by evaluating the financial health of over 5,500 charities. Charity Navigator is a 501 (c)(3) organization which accepts no advertising or donations from the organizations it evaluates, ensuring unbiased evaluations. For more information visit
