"We invest our resources not merely with the hope, but the expectation of a return in future years in the form of scientific knowledge. This knowledge will be of incalculable value. What price, for instance, might we put on experimental progress that enables us to overcome drug resistance in chemotherapy? Can one put a price tag on the science that enables us to develop simple, accurate tests for definitively revealing the mechanistic nature of mental illness?"
Less than half of CSHL’s annual revenues are derived from federal grants and contracts. Throughout the Laboratory’s long history, many of the most important discoveries were initially supported with private donations. Investments in CSHL’s community of more than 360 scientists spark research vital to relieving human suffering and improving the quality of life.
CSHL is a 501(c)(3) organization.
