Employee Benefits

Below is a summary of current employee benefits. An employee must work full time or part time (working 30 hours or more each week) to qualify for our benefits. Excluded are part-time employees working less than 30 hours each week, and seasonal employees (those who are employed for a limited period of time).  For most plans eligibility is date of hire unless noted otherwise. If your spouse/domestic partner has access to their employer’s health plan, they are not eligible for CSHL’s health plan.

Vision Care

EyeMed provides one annual routine eye exam ($20 copay) for all benefits eligible employees. Employees can also purchase additional coverage for eyeglasses and contact lenses.

80% basic restorative - $50/$150 deductible
50% major restorative - $50/$150 deductible

Short Term Disability Salary Continuation Plan

Short Term Disability (STD) Salary Continuation plan is provided at no cost to benefit eligible employees excluding Graduate Students. If you are absent from work for more than five consecutive workdays due to illness or injury that happens on and off the job, you may be entitled to STD Salary Continuation benefits.  The benefits are based on your status, benefits eligible serviceandapproval by our disability carrier or workers compensation carrier.

Long Term Disability

60% of your monthly salary will be paid to you after 6 months of continuous absence due to illness or injury; at no cost to employee (excluding Graduate Students).

 

Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment:

Faculty and Administration

Full time benefits eligible employees - 2 times annual salary (max. $1,000,000) at no cost to employee. 

Part time benefits eligible employees - 1 times annual salary at no cost to employee.

Center for Health & Wellness

On site health facility operated and managed by NSLIJ.  All benefits eligible employees, graduate students, and covered spouses can obtain services free of charge.  Services available are:

·      Blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings
·      Treatment of minor injuries and illnesses
·      Preventive care services and referrals
·      Ongoing wellness programs
·      On site counseling

Optum Employee Assistance

Information and resources, available 7 days a week/24 hours per day that can help you and your family identify and resolve problems affecting emotional and physical health.

NYS College Savings Program

Set up a Tuition Savings Account for future college students. Make contributions via payroll deduction.

CSHL 401(a) Retirement Plan

Must be at least 21 years of age and have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours for two consecutive years. CSHL contributes the equivalent of 9.3% of your annual salary up to the social security taxable wage base and 15% of your annual salary above that base. Post Doctoral Fellows receive a 1% contribution.

CSHL Tax Deferred Annuity Plan 403(b)

You may contribute a portion of your gross salary before state and federal taxes are withheld, thereby reducing your taxable income. Must have a valid social security number in order to participate in the CSHL TDA plan.

Pet Care Insurance

Make pet care more affordable to you by electing VPI Pet Care Insurance. Participants enjoy discounts of up to 30% on pet supplies and 25% at participating veterinarians.
